I know about your writing capabilities ;) that's why I requested "brief". So pls write basic specs, what you like most about it, how it feels in hand & in shooting, how comfortable is it to carry, what's its trigger is like, how's recoil etc etc ... its not very difficult so start writing please as only pics taste like an egg without salt & pepper :D

price 97 k
does it shoot good , accuracy recoil . compare with mk 23

mhrehman
29-10-2010, 03:56 AM
Sirs as per my limited knowledge specs should be the same as the SP-01 models, and likewise in handling and accuracy etc. Basically its a SP-01 in .45, and an excellent weapon I may add.

ACHILLES

CZ 97 B is a nice piece to have in collection. The single action trigger pull is short, crisp, and fairly light. Double action pull is fair. Sights are of the three dot variety but with irridium night sights. The grips are of checkered walnut. It is very easy to shoot, recoil is no problem, and accuracy is absolutely devastating at short to medium yardage. The 97 has a similar appearance to the smaller 9mm models and shares the superb accuracy potential, but alas, it is way too large for concealed carry but it does have excellent potential as a house defender and car tuck-in gun. If you are looking for low cost full steel frame Double action, Double stack rugged gun than weight is a by-product. Personally i dislike the chamber load indicator. Here are the specifications:

Weight: 2.4 lbs
Overall Length: 8.3 in
Barrel Length: 4.8 in
Height: 5.9 in
Width: 1.4 in
Frame: steel
Grips: wood
Trigger mech.: SA/DA
Sights: fixed
Safety elements: Manual Safety, Safety Stop on Hammer, Firing Pin Safety, Loaded Chamber Indicator
Price: As mentioned by Dr. Zakir Sahib. (95k-97k)

ACHILLES
29-10-2010, 06:37 PM
Dr. Zakir sahib you cannot compare CZ 97 b with Mk 23. Compare it with S&W,Taurus etc in pakistan.

ACHILLES
29-10-2010, 06:42 PM
Accuracy potential of the gun is more than or equal to sig 220. The CZ design of full length guide rails helps alot in accuracy and reliability. But if guide rod and some thin profile rubber grips are add to the sock gun i think its going to be a joy to shoot.

Congratulations. It's a really nice gun. Any comparisons to the 1911 ?

Also are you considering getting new grips for it ?

Depands which class of 1911. I think accuracy vise 97 beats alot of 1911 brands. The only negative side of the gun is its hugeness. But for well built tall person having a bit of large hands will shoot this gun like hell gun.

Not getting any clue from where i can get the grips for the 97.

A.O.A How I missed this thread? Hats off to Mr. President for carving out a review from a very good writer, I must second Denovo that you should write and share your reviews. That’s how we excelled, we don’t made it mandatory to be Professor of Firearms and give us some “Serious” stuff rather, we learn from each other, encourage, guide and discuss, thus enjoying our hobby with safety and fun. I at least learned a lot from your input. One suggestion dear that try to attach all pictures in single post. BTW your C.Z is looking dashing. This C.Z fever is catching fast, no medicine for it like Dingy fever  . I guess soon we will have C.Z Club in formation. A-H

Thats one great beast you have ACHILLES brother.. congrats on your great purchase.. its one Rock solid gun indeed with a .45 punch, but I don't understand why you don't like the loaded chamber indicator.

Personally i dislike the chamber load indicator.
I agree with you that the only drawback is its large size means not for carry purpose and its large grips not suitable for small hands, but a loaded chamber indicator is an advantage rather than a liability.. ;)

Actually i will not place CZ 97 B in the league of Mk 23 but if you insist than i will place it as 6. The 6 is there because of erganomics, capacity etc no reason of accuracy for scoring low against MK 23 .

Achillies bro, could you please tell us where you got that holster from, looks awfully comfortable, and will it fit a standard 1911 or a 1911 with rails, and does it ride high.

ACHILLES

this type of holster is known as pancake holster. made by my custom desi holster maker. Separate holster would be made for 1911 for exact fit. yes it rides high.

when you use external web server as host like photo bucket then theres no burden on forum what ever it is (e.g pakguns)

but posting 8 pics in 8 posts and posting 8 pics in 1 post makes the difference thus you consume extra 7 posts space.
i am sorry if my suggestion offended you.

Regards.

No hard feelings bro.

I do not use external source coz i want my post to look nice. Post with pictures looks nice. And resultantly PakGuns looks nice. To look nice there is always some price to pay. But the price should not be more than ones QUOTA.
I will try to post as many pictures as the space allotted to me for posting the pictures.
But your suggestion is worth noting.

I think Cz97 is one of the most underrated pistols on the market. Its beautiful, it has doublestack magazine but it feels slimmer than M1911A1. I ordered mine directly from CZ plant at Uhersky Brod. My choice was a BD model, with dekocker, black rubber grip panels and Meprolight tritium night sights.

exellent ergonomics, easy to field strip and absolutely excellent accurace. was able to print 8-10 sm groups on 50 meters using car bonnet as a benchrest.

I am strong believer of Manual safety. But do not condemn a decocker. Rather i like manual safety with decocker. But if both are not available and had to choose one among both the options than i will opt for manual safety. (Old 1911 school of thoughts cocked & locked)

Salams, I played with one for a couple of days and seriously considered buying one but the following things stopped me.

1). For me it is too damn heavy with the rounds loaded.
2). It's too large to carry around and needs a very solid holster for any hopes of carrying.
3). For carrying in the car, the weight and recoil is too much to shoot single handed which is a must.
4). The grip was too thick to fit my hand comfortably.
5). It looks decent but if you already have a few CZ's lying in your cupboard then you want something different looking not just another gun in the same design.

Plus points are:

1). CZ accuracy
2). CZ reliability
3). High capacity .45

All in all, it's a good night stand / home defence gun.

Congrats Achilles...............I wonder if these grips would better enable smaller/mid-sized hands a better hold of the gun??

Looks much cooler, but my major problem with the 97B was exactly the curling around of my fingers and meeting the thumb on the other side. It barely contacted.

Congrats on the cz97b. It's a good gun. Please share the price. The options available in ammo are just S&B and Armscore. I don't know about if this gun is sutible for you or not, as this is a big and heavy gun. Certainly not for CC. But the .45Acp is the best ammo for SD in my opinion, if you can get use to its recoil.

Wow.. thats too much indeed.. plz mention the dealer name from which you bought it.

PS: prices of all weapons have gone up recently because of import restiction.. even Stoegar Cougar which was available for 55k have gone up to 72k becoz of Turkeys restriction on export to Pakistan + Dollar is increasing day by day compared to our currency, but still 145k for CZ 97B is really insane.

Gents,

Per someone I know well, these guns are generally smuggled from Afghanistan. Lands in Peshawar, from there Islamabad, Lahore, Multan and finally Karachi. As they progress further into the border, price goes higher. You can see this in all brands. Many of my friends go to Lahore to purchase guns. As price difference was not so high in my case, I opted for an easily route?

Few days back I came across CZ 97. CZ is quite new to me as I have never fired one. But I was impressed overall. The only thing I did not like was the recoil rod in the handgun is made of plastic. Though, I dont think that it will effect its performance in any way but I changed the rod with the steel one. The performance was remarkable after that. It was more accurate and had less recoil. However, it was more heavy after that.

Yeah i held one recently too. Its a awesome gun for .45ACP. Very well built and balanced. Should be more accurate then 1911s. I would've bought it if it fit my hands well. My thumb couldn't reach the mag release button or the slide release button. But the night sights, chamber indicator are very good features. Only thing i didn't like was the hard and long trigger pull of the DA, and the if the did decided to make it a double stacked then atleast they should have given more round capacity. I mean glocks and Norinco 1911s both have 14 rounds capacity. While this one is just as big and has 10 round capacity....

Salam All,
MK23 has a great rating. Its a big gun, the same size as the Desert Eagle but lighter... And though its a VERY accurate gun - not everyone can shoot it accurately due to its large grip. Also if you think that after spending 6-7 lacs you will be able to sell it, think again, it will take forever to sell. That is the ceiling sky rocketed price. Unless you got it for 5 lacs or less and some i know did buy for less then its worth every penny purchase... otherwise no, never, ever...

Thank you respected brothers - @380 acp , @Dr Zakir, & @Moeen !

Those prices are very high - i would have gone for it if it was around 3 lac or maybe i might have stretched to 3.5 / 4 lac - but 6 or 7 lac is out of my range unfortunately (i had to save-up my salary for 4/5 months to afford my Glock 19!) - i think the CZ 97b seems to be a very good alternative -

however it seems that only the older wooden grip model is available at the moment - for which i was quoted 115k -
@Avais sb - im not sure i have seen mr Sultan Tehwars shop in nila gumbad? please tell me the shop name...
i really like the look of the new one with aluminum grip and fibre optic sights but im not sure where it might be available and how much it should cost?

If you want to carry your piece para ordanance and mk arent for this purpose consider usp or glock 21 both are great guns, currently in market taurus pt 145,1911 glock 21, stoeger 8054, cz 97b and bd used colts, another brand cz 45 which i personally dont like, sarsalamaz k2, ria 1911, zigana 1911 and mk23, i am mentioning all these brands so you can make your mind according to your requirement and budget and have peace just in one post instead of searching all 45 acp guns one by one, if i have to buy a 45 acp for SD my choice will be glock or h&k my 2nd choice will be PARA ordanance, and if i have extra money will consider mk23, but just for collection as mk is uselss for us hard to conceal actually impossible it just suits the purpose it was built for,

@380acp - i think i've narrowed it down to either the glock 21 or the HK usp tactical as they're both around the 300k mark
- but another question is that do u feel the CZ 97b doesn't come close to them in terms of quality / reliability?

@Dr Zakir - although i know that the 1911 is tried and tested - i just don't like the way it looks - even though its a classic "John Woo" movie iconic gun - its just that i'm more into the 'squared' shapes... but that doesn't mean that i don't respect the firearm itself...

@380acp - Thanks bro - after reading ur post i went and had a look at what a 40S&W actually is!! i hadn't heard of it before so i have learnt something new today!! are the bullets the same size as normal 9mm? I think however i'm gonna get a .45 - probably gonna go look for a Glock 30 (if i can find one) or more likely a Sig Sauer P220 combat in a .45... Probably after Eid in-shaa-Allah.

no kash bro I am from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa not lahore, yes get a 45 first, only than consider a 40s&w, well 40 cal is not same in size with 9mm, it has a bullet dia of 10mm, parent cartridge was 10mm which is considered most powerful cartridge in semi auto handguns, the recoil was too much for FBI agents so based on the design of 10mm 40s&w was introduced it has more punch as compared to 9mm,

AoA - yes bro - u r right, i guess i'm just enticed by the Glock (especially after that torture test link i showed u) - and ur point about recoil makes sense, ...and the SIG opens possibilities for a hush-hush at the end of it... but i think ur right i should get the CZ...

This is the most accurate handgun i have fired so far (regardless of caliber), capable of hitting at 90 meters.

Oh that's a good mag count bro . That means 60 rounds in spare and 10 in the pistol . That's mean you will be spending more time in shooting then loading ammo at the range .
