On CF98
I had one. but its serial number got rubbed off with time. Is this a common thing?
How many rounds have you put through your CF98? What is your experience with it?
I have NP42 and yes the numbering is light but seems better than the CF98. I don't think it will rub off easily but is difficult to read in low light. My piece is new and I've yet to get range membership to test it out (new to guns, its my first one). Will report back.
Quoting balazona ... thanks for the pic and tips!
@ Cap1,dear here is a picture of disassembled Np-42/CF-98 pistol.i hope this will help u out to clean ur pistol.

I had the QSZ92 for about 2 years put more than 500 Rounds through it gave to my brother .. No a single JAM, FTE or FTF... very reliable weapon.

This was QSZ-92 design which Berreta picked for its Cougar.the rotating barrel locking system.QSZ-92 pistol was designed in 1992 and cougar was in 1994.and later they it came in polymer form which is called PX4 storm. So,u can say that Berrata copied the chinese in this design.
Which is best for self defense caliber 10mm 40, 9mm, 5.8mm a guy Mr. Samiullah Afridi in Chakwal Chakwal armory arms and ammunition dealer told me if the bullet is bottle shape it is more powerful.
I had the QSZ92 for about 2 years put more than 500 Rounds through it gave to my brother .. No a single JAM, FTE or FTF... very reliable weapon.
Which bullets did u use 5.8mm? bottle shape?

Thats so great to hear. The main reason I got my NP42 were the great reports from all those who used it. Of course the cheaper price tag was also a consideration, but not the primary or secondary one.

Omar u cant use the 5.8 they have a seperate gun for it . it look alo like the np42. the 5.8 is specifically made for another norinco pistol. Used chinese ammo 9 mm
Which is best for self defense caliber 10mm 40, 45 9mm, 5.8mm?
Firepower!
11-01-2009, 12:27 PM
10mm is most powerfull of the listed.
Howeveer, I dont think if you hit some one with a 9 and then 45, he could tell a difference. One cant be more dead with one than other.
That said, I mostly carry 357 or 45. If not these, then HK P2K in 9.
Firepower is there any other hand gun that use's bottle shape bullets like 30 bore
Balazona
11-01-2009, 12:53 PM
That caliber is called .357Sig.it is an advanced form of 9mm.which use .40 casing and 9mm bullet.it is very high pressure round.
Firepower!
11-01-2009, 12:58 PM
Ok. you query answered. And dont forget the good old 7.63 mauser:)
However, I dont carry 357Sig. I use 357 Rem. Mag. in KC or GP100.
I do know a guy who is selling Glock in 357Sig.

Is there any visible difference in the three guns, I think QSZ92 is the chinese millitary version capable of firing DAP rounds, CF98 is the same gun in civilian version. NP42 is only has a better barrel life than the CF98. These are my two cents about the gun, if anyone knows better please educate me.
I onece seriously considered CF98 but didn't bought it because of the trigger in the DA mode it was horrible, i have bigger than average hands but couldn't pull the trigger all the way. In SA mode it was ok though. Whats your experience.

Am suprised. it oculd be a bad batch or something. Or may be my friend is lucky to get away with a good piece. Any one else have any comments on this

I also have the same info
The NP42 is my first gun so I can't really comment on the trigger in DA mode. I've only shot a few rounds and I thought it was easier to control than I thought it would be. Trying to get range access if I ever complete the never-ending formalities. It was easier to get the gun than to get range membership. No wonder so many people resort to aerial firing to test their guns. There really should be more training schools and ranges so people can learn and practice properly.

Looks really good.
@omkhan Very nice! Did you get it chromed or is it originally in two-tone?
I'm new to this... when oiling my NP42 should I oil (or avoid oiling) the recoil spring, firing pin, magazine spring or any other parts? I heard bullets should be kept oil free and that sounds hard if there is oil inside the pistol.
Also I noticed that if I chamber a round and then eject it the bullet gets scratched. Will it still be ok to fire?

If you reduce the size of the pic i think the entire picture will show.

12-01-2009, 06:37 PM
It was originally in 2 tone. I put a very light coating of oil on springs. Since its 144 & I dont go to range that often, the slide & other metal parts get highly lubricated EXCEPT the barrel. No oil should go into the barrel. same goes for bullets
Yes, chambering a round & ejecting it often does scratch the cartridge, but I dont think there is anything wrong firing it as long as the bullet/ cartridge is not deformed.

Only CF-98 comes in very varities.whenever i see a CF-98 on a dealer's place it has different markings from each other.some has norinco logo some doesnot.
Yes CF98 has many variants. I heard from a someone who had it that there's a difference of whether it was made in the Beijing factory or the Hong Kong one.

Dear Abbas/Omar,
How can I start a new post.. actually I am a bit confused about the qsz-92 and CF-98?? are they the same pistols??? the picture posted here for CF-98 is actually qsz-92?? Maybe our learned pak gun fellows can shed some light?? also i have read that qsz-92 is capable of firing +p+ load??? wow i would have really bought that anyday if i hadnt bought a tarus!!:)
The GSZ92 as I understand is for Chinese home use and not export. The CF98 and NP42 are for export, the only difference between the two being that the CF98 has a barrel life of 3000 rounds and the NP42 does 10,000. The GSZ also handles the +p rounds better. Apart from these minor difference the aesthetics are the same and it's pretty the same gun.
Balazona
29-01-2009, 08:21 AM
Abbas,it is QSZ-92 and CF-98's barrel life is 8,000 rounds.
Abbas
29-01-2009, 11:06 AM
I stand corrected then. I have no personal experience with Chinese pistols apart from letting off a few hundred rounds. I thought I read somewhere once about the 3 k and the 10 k barrel life.. Let me just check..
Yep, this is where I read it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QSZ-92 I was sure I was quoting the right barrel life.
My NP42 had its first outing at the range today. Results at 15m:

you to tighten up the group.
Yes it was my first time target shooting and practically pistol shooting too so I was all over the place. Most trouble I had was with the aim height and mostly shot low. An expert told me later the way to correct this is to fire 5 shots without changing aim from shot to shot. Then evaluate the results. If shooting tends towards 6 O'clock from bulls-eye, then for the next 5 aim at 12 O'clock. Plan to try that out next time.

today i saw a youtube video of someguy adnan... he RE-assembled his gun only. he didnt dis-assemble it... after watching it twice i found it cf-98's fieldstripping is mostly like 30 bore pistol.... u go and take out the main pin, which holds pistol both main parts.... than drag upper slide forward.... like u do with 30 bore.... spring nikaalo... then barrel.... i didnt go further than that coz cock machinery was seeming a little difficult... so lubricated/cleaned it...and closed it same way... u go and try..

15-06-2009, 10:29 AM
AoA, well guys, CF98 is not made by Norinco rather its made by Chang Feng Machinery & Tools Ltd, a company working under Norinco. As Norinco is a huge industrial giant. This CF company makes a PDW by the name of CF05 and a couple of other weapons also. Norinco was/is basically banned in USA and Canada. They couldnt import their weapons, so they started to role out the pistol under a new designation by another company so that they can export it easily.
Hope this helps, check out the below link for seeing CF98 in action. Thx

hey r in police department?is it urs pic?

i myself also check on net alot to see the fieldstrip video for cf 98, but there wasnt any... and i was hesitating to try my own intelligence on this new piece :)
today i saw a youtube video of someguy adnan... he RE-assembled his gun only. he didnt dis-assemble it... after watching it twice i found it cf-98's fieldstripping is mostly like 30 bore pistol.... u go and take out the main pin, which holds pistol both main parts.... than drag upper slide forward.... like u do with 30 bore.... spring nikaalo... then barrel.... i didnt go further than that coz cock machinery was seeming a little difficult... so lubricated/cleaned it...and closed it same way... u go and try..

AoA,
Sorry guys was out of touch due to some domestic engagements.
2 weeks back bought my 2nd CF98, this time for my brother. Just today took it for testing And fired around 80 rounds from it with no problems faced. But this CF98 has Norinco Markings on it & accessory rail is missing on it.
Made video of the firing too, here are links to some of the clips.

Fired from around 100 yards & then 50 yards.
Dead accurate if the firer has control on his firing skills, even from around 100 yards was very accurate.
Enjoy

Fired accurately from 100 yds! Thats outstanding. Proves that both pistol and the firer are damn good :)
Congrats on buying 2nd CF98 bro. I believe its the best available pistol in this price range.
@Sir taimikhan.........Just checked your vids, Sir. Sure you mean "100 YARDS"? My judgement may be wrong and there may be some "camera effects" too, but it appears more like 100 feet to me! Plz confirm, and excellent shooting Sir, you just perhaps should have let the camera zoom-in to the board. Regards.

Its a Armed forces firing range, where they train too. Two of the videos are from close range, the second one if fully seen in the end will give a good idea how lengthy it is.
The incharge of the facility gave me the 100 yard figure and said in couple of weeks the facility will be converted to a 200 yard or more firing range.
But will check out tomorrow again and get it confirmed.
Thanks Sir, it just appeared a "bit" shorter to me. And if they could increase their plans of a 200 yard range to say something like 300 yards, I guess the incharge himself would be somewhat "safe" there, as a target board himself! Kidding Sir, let's hear from you. Regards.
+1 on different CF98 markings. I've even seen one marked 'Shaheen'! I went for the NP42 with Norinco logo.
Shaheen is basically the company which is making CF 98 clones near Pehawer. An acquaintance got a roundabout 16k price tag for Shaheen made clone.....

CF & NP stands for what ?
Any one having experience of NP 22 0r its smaller version NP34 as both are the copies of Sig however the query is about their performance, Why few pistols like CF 98 are designed with safety where as NP 22 is with out safety, is it with a purpose or a model feature or to make it more practical in a state of readiness in combat zones as I have been told that pistols with out safety are purely meant for practical shooting i.e operations ? Asak ,
Its better to spend rs 3 to 4000 more and nullify all u r doubt . But the np 42 available at national traders NIB tehy ask 36000/ final price depends upon u r negotiation skills. The np 42 will hold its value better then the cf coz its scarce compared to the cf98

Is there any difference between NP42 and CF98? I think NP42, CF98 and QSZ92 are names of the same gun.

QSZ92 is the Chinese official name to 5.8mm version of the gun.
NP42 was the Norinco made version
CF98 is the Chang Feng Machinery Tools make.
The firing mechanism is same for all, diff comes in caliber & barrel life.

taimikhan Sir, I think our esteemed senior member 12 Guage explained this point in detail in one of the threads that QSZ92 (sidearm of PLA, available in both 9mm para as well as 5.8mm Chinese), NP42 and CF98 are all names of the same pistol. All have been manufactured by CHONGQING CHANG-FENG MACHINE MANUFACTURING. Norinco has just been exporting them with the names of NP42 and CF98.

Go to the "Firearms availability and dealer review" section of the forum and look for a thread for the Arms dealer "PARA". You can get a CF-98 from there. You won't be able to find the NP-42 that easily since CF-98 is pretty much the same. As for the barrel life, are you going to shoot 10,000 rounds out of a 30k handgun? 1000 rounds for 30,000. Do the math.
