Thanks Ilyas for the compliments! If you could find some "newer" ammo for this, let me know. The clips on the picture are very old. In fact, I even have some rounds from WW2 era, Danish rounds from year 1940! Yet also some from 1970-1980. Yes it's in a very nice condition, hardly touched since the BG shot, some 20 years back!

he has not retired yet.. Lol! Actually, MUSTANIR bro, neither has mine retired as such, it's just that the idea of Rs. 150 pr/round doesn't really appeal to these seniors any longer!

Thanks everybody for appreciating my rifle, I'm really trying to keep it fresh, hoping it would last for another generation or so, it's already in our possession since last I think 30 years. :)

Thanks Dr. Hanif Malik, Yardie, Dr. Zakir Sb. And @Ahmad Sir.... I'm really looking for some "blank shots", just in case Hawl bro shows up in a "surprise" visit! ;) :lol:

@Denovo 87 bro...... Indeed a very generous old man of mine, actually I had no "Salahs" ( Read "qabza" group), so I think I was the natural choice for this gun! ;)

Finally, about the BG "panga", let me tell you all, he appeared within the premises of my father-in-law around 1'o clock at night, had a "northern accent", and was trying his best to break a thick wooden door of his room, I guess min 2" thick, for no conceivable reasons at all, was warned to leave in the first instance, but kept kicking, pushing the door, finally to receive ONE center-mass shot THROUGH THE DOOR, to get stiffer than he ever was before!

Nobody in the village knew him, he had NO REASONS to be there with a 12 gauge DBBL at night, was a total stranger, nobody inquired about him later, and was buried next morning with all rituals, yet like a dog, poor soul!

His presence there and his subsequent killing remains a mystery to us until this day, for there was no conceivable enmity of such a degree as well!

Thanks Ka_Khan..... Well, the daughter is a greater shot even! Yet with her on my side, I think the old man is literally out of ammo any longer! And @SevenMagnum.... Well, apart from the ill fated BG, indeed, he's a good shot, in his times, probably one of the best hunters around here. He once shot an Ibex with this gun (No scope) from very long distance, yet after being hit the animal moved a few feet and away from visibility. His friends said: What a terrible miss, Sir. And he replied," you better go look around the corner of that field". They did. And It was lying there, with a well placed shot!

Btw, speaking of this rifle, if any member, especially those in Karachi, ever come across the Winchester Springfield 180gr silvertip rounds, plz DO let me know. I'd take them, and have heard that somebody once eyed them at DAAD"s or Tayabelly, I just can't remember exactly which. I know they may be costly, yet let me know, if you find them. Thanks.

@GG, you got quite some humor, there, buddy. Indeed it seems more like a 'reconnaissance' effort!. Anyhow, to any brother from there, one great dinner of choice, I guess would be appropriate!

Cheers.

@AK 47 .... Lovely rifle.

I have a question for the owner of this prized rifle! As you have a very keen eye, please guide, how should we differentiate between an original Churchill 30-06 and a Dosal / Pakistan assembled rifle? What are the things to look for?

Please oblige with your reply.

AK47
15-11-2009, 12:14 AM
@Topak bro...........Ilyas is right!. No Pakhtoon tradition AT ALL! I've just been lucky in not having any competing brothers-in-law, I guess I was a "natural choice". Thanks for appreciating.

@TAREEN ...... Thanks Sir for appreciating. As regards your question, I honestly never knew the "Dossals" were into 30-06 production! I thought they only made "half-functioning" TT's! Have to see one first to make a comparison.

@ghulammurtaza........Thanks bro.

@ChocTalpur.........Thanks for appreciating bro. About ballistics, well, I guess our expert Sir Skeeter would have lots of info on this issue to be shared with us. All I know, from my limited use of this gun, is that indeed it's one POWERFUL round, faster and longer reaching than the 7mm and 303. Can't say of it's comparison with the 308, however, but I guess it must be slightly inferior. Need some expert intervention here. Thanks again for appreciating. :)

Hi! Been doing some restorations with above rifle and wanted to share here with some practical shooting also, but sadly forgot the ammo back by the hills during this summer, so will be back later with that, probably by spring.

So far, managed this as part of periodic maintenance and some off-time fun:

Bolt Refinish:

Went to my number-plate guy and asked him to buff it out with a soft brush over the machine, using some brasso like agent.

When done, I took it home, cleaned it once more to wipe off the loose carbon residue from the buffing job, and then applied some steel-polish for further cleansing and shine, finally topping off with an application of auto-wax for further smoothness/protection:

http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n497/wahstar1/Rifles/30-06015Small.jpg

Magazine:

I stripped the magazine and - after complete cleaning, especially of the hairlike ridges by the bends of the spring which can be very prone to rust collection- greased the whole thing up with some quality white grease, reason why you can't see the shine, otherwise it's like new:

http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n497/wahstar1/Rifles/30-06019Medium.jpg

Wooden parts:

If you checked the 1.st page of this thread, this is how the rifle looked like back then, a couple of years back, default finish:

http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n497/wahstar1/Rifles/30-062.jpg

And this is what our 2 seasons - hot n' cold -can do to our guns, over a couple of years, climatic effects, watch the dryness/dullness of the wooden parts:

http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n497/wahstar1/Rifles/30-06012Small.jpg

I did not go for any special oils/agents, wanted the job done without too many deliberations, and since it's a keeper and I care nil for market status of the gun, I called in my preferred polish guy to give it it's required dose, neither more nor less, to get it back to it's original status as per picture above, you can compare, it's smooth and silk now, just a few swabs of almost colorless polish and some quality lamination:

Now looking for some ammo, a shell carrier, a sling and a new butt-plate.

Maa Sha Allah for the Gun and May Allah SWT Give the Great man with a Golden Heart (who Entrusted 2 of his dear possessions to you AK47 Bhai) a Long, Prosperous and Healthy Life full of Imaan in-sha-Allah.

Now Excuse my ignorance Ak Bhai BUT why don't one of the Dealers in Pakistan get on-board with PakGuns and possibly become A Recommended PG Supplier, hopefully helping and looking after the PG members as and when possible? there might be some regulations that i am unaware of. I just Saw the Ammo that you mentioned for this beauty of yours and its readily, easily and cheaply available in the USA. it might not be difficult to import.

Thanks. I discussed the same with some prominent dealers here. 1.st of all, they can't somehow import couple of packs of these, exporters requiring thousands of rounds minimum order.

Second, the price will be too much and out of reach for the common user, so they fear the ammo will get stocked up for too long in idle status, since these rifle calibers are for the rarer/occasional use only.

Even Serb rounds by Prvi Partizan going close to Rs. 400 per bullet here, the american ones would hit close to Rs. 1000 per round.

I could kill for above rounds! Lol!

Thanks for the kind comments.

@LOR/Qazi Usman.............Thanks bros.
