Salams everyone.

I bought two new pistols today, the Canik 55 Piranha and the Canik 55 Piranha Compact. I've been on the lookout for a CZ 75 but unable to find one in suitable condition or price I had been looking at high quality clones.

There are four popular versions available.

1). Tangfolio Force 99 (Made in Philippines)

2). NZ 85B (Made in China)

3). Sarsilmaz B6 also known as AR-24 (Made in Turkey)

4). Canik 55 (Made in Turkey)

The Canik 55 Piranha (Except for the extended frame design, which I love it's an identical copy of the CZ 75-B)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/Canik553.jpg

The Canik 55 Piranha Compact. After the Walther PP, this is the most beautiful compact pistol I've seen.

Disassembled comparison between the two.

Enter the Stoeger Cougar.

Note the width of the slide vs each other and the length of the grips/pistols.

Note the size of the Slides, both width and length.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/Canik558.jpg

1st Barrel is Piranha (4.7 Inches), 2nd Piranha Compact (4.0 Inches) and Stoeger (3.6 Inches)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/Canik559.jpg

All three compared disassembled.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/Canik5510.jpg

Quick facts about the three:

Piranha: Length = 8.2 Inches (approx), Height = 5.6 Inches, Width = 1.378 Inches, Weight = 850 Grams, Barrel Length = 4.72 Inches, Capacity = 15 + 1

Stoeger: Length = 7.1 Inches (approx), Height = 5.5 Inches, Width = 1.5 Inches, Weight = 924 Grams, Barrel Length = 3.6 Inches, Capacity = 15 + 1

Piranha Compact: Length = 7.3 Inches (approx), Height = 5.23 Inches, Width = 1.378 Inches, Weight = 770 Grams, Barrel Length = 3.93 Inches, Capacity = 13 + 1

I will post a range review as soon as I come back from the GTG's InshAllah. The Compact is my new carry gun, 13 rounds of 9mm Hp's are enough to stop anything I want.

Congratrs on the purchases Abbas Bhai.

From pix I can tell that both the guns are well built. I hope & expect they will perform well at the range. Many of the Turkish Guns/clones are of high quality & performance. There is no doubt abt tht.

I just sold Tanfoglio Force 99 last week. The performed of the gun was fully up to my requirements. But couple of months back I got CZ 75 in a 99% condition from an Army Officer (it's also an interesting story, which I will tell U som other time). who had fired just 3 rounds on it and he also gave me the rest of 47 AMC rounds as a bonus :D

Once again congrats for the new guns.

Shoot Safe.

@Denovo87

Those dot are used to align the slide and frame to take down or to disassemble the gun U need to align those dots on slide & the frame (align the slide dot on top of the frame dot) and then take out the slide stop/slide release lever and disassemble the gun.

Salaam Abbas, the CZ-75B clone is truly a beautifully crafted piece. How much? I am sorry but it is being near impossible to get a good CZ-75 especially is a reasonable price and condition and i want to keep my promise to you and Dr Zakir et al. i heard from aonther dealer in Bara that one was lying in Landi Kotal but he was not so forward in telling us who the other dealer was as i appeared a bit desperate to get it and he wanted to get a hefty price. i only have 2 magazines and want another 3-4 but that is looking difficult as i only keep original items never local made.

Glocaholic- the CZ-75 looks exactly like mine and in the same condition. Since one of my relatives is an army officer i had better get back to Pakistan to check mine is still there. :O. if you find anymore magazines then buy for me also.

@KF the answer regarding yellow dots is already given in

07-10-2009, 05:29 PM
Thank you all, I'm looking forward to range day and letting off a hundred or so rounds each and break them in properly.

The Yellow dots as Glockoholic explained are for disassembly, you put the hammer at half cock, align them and take the pin out.

@Glockoholic Nice CZ, seems indeed in pristine condition.

@KhanTora Thanks for remembering, I have another friend looking for one for me as well. InshAllah whenever I get a good piece I will buy it. Now with the Canik's the urgency has gone down a bit since these are very high quality.

I recently saw the CZ 75 Compact NIB in Karachi with the asking price of 180k (180k is B.S btw, it should be around 100k max) but quite frankly if both were unmarked, of the same price and lying side by side I would probably pick the Canik over the CZ. The pistols cost me Rs. 39,500 each :)

I'm holding off the final comments till after the range session but till now I simply love them. The Compact is in a class of it's own, I've never held any pistol in any price range in it's size that felt so complete and comfortable. You know from the weight and size that it's a compact but it feels very sophisticated and full size, you don't feel that you're compromising anything by going small.

I forgot to add earlier in the original post that both Canik's come with Italian magazines and glow in the dark sights.

40K is an excellent price! A steal, if I might say so, if the gun performs equally to its original counterpart.

I believe that you mean tritium night sights, those which glow sort of greenish...

Abbas
07-10-2009, 06:48 PM
@Kagefox They are not Tritium or TrueGlow they are just "Glow in the dark" ;)

More of a glowly powder filled into the sights rather than glass / gas filled sights.

@9mm Thanks ! Missed you at the informal gtg in Karachi, Taurus told me you were in Multan.

@Ilyas & MHMalik Thanks, acutally the problem was not the size as I shoot decently well with my .45 Taurus Millennium and my Walther PP. The Glock 19 and Cougar grips were not fitting my hand well. That's also one of the reasons why I'm not too fond of Sigs as almost all of them come with double stack mags. This compact while being one feels like a full size pistol. Ofcourse the pistols only become carry weapons after a break in period of atleast 300 rounds.

HassanJamshad and Skeeter60 both saw the pistols today. They liked them as much as I like them. If they fire as well as they look and are built, we need to get a Canik franchise for Pakistan !

Canik Pirhana. I believe Abbas bhai U are the 1st person to review this brand here..

@CC Thanks, this is the normal selling price, although they ask for 45 K but there is quite a bit of headroom for bargaining. I gave no reference of PakGuns or anyone else, just walked into the shop, bargained them down and bought them. If I did a little more 'sar kaphai' I perhaps would have gotten it for Rs. 500 or max Rs. 1000 less but around 40 K is a good price.

@ED There are different versions of the Canik out there with minor differences, you can read more about them here:

Thanks guys, took the Canik's to the range yesterday for a more complete evaluation and shooting. We used the Piranha in Islamabad before the GTG for around a 100 rounds and I did not clean it purposely, shot about 100 plus rounds again though it yesterday for a total of 200 + without any cleaning what so ever and am happy to report that not a single FTF occurred. The Piranha compact was also fired for about 100 rounds and has the same reliability report.

The Piranha is a fantastic gun, the grips are nice, sights marvelous and the recoil and the balance very decent. The trigger although OEM could be mistaken for custom and pull is very crisp at around 3.5 pounds. The accuracy report you will see below. I would rate it *ideal* for range use and can and will pull it's own weight against pistols 10 times it's price in all categories. If I was a competition shooter I would prefer this over anything else I own.

The Piranha Compact is a very good gun as well. Frankly I think I should not have been testing a full frame pistol vs a compact on the same day but it still did not disappoint. For it's size it's great shooter. My piece was shooting a bit low, I thought it was me perhaps but I had more experienced shooters try with the same result. The recoil however was much more noticeable when firing against a full frame pistol, it will take most shooters off guard on the first few shots. The sound is very pleasant, unlike the Stoeger which to me sounds like a .30 TT. The combat grips make the pistol great to hold and will make sure the pistol will stay firmly in your hand in all situations. Although on the flip side, firing 100 rounds left my hand and skin a little sore.

Here is a 50 round test each of the Piranha and the Pirhana Compact. Targets were set at 10 M.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/PiranhaB.jpg

About 3 months ago I bought a pair of Canik's, the compact and the full size version.

Since I love CZ-75 frame I wanted to test the Canik thoroughly to see if does justice to the grand reputation of it's original. I bought 100 each of the most common rounds that are available in the market today and did a realiability and stress test. Rounds were fired in two sessions of 250 each and I did not clean the pistol through out 500 rounds. Not a single misfire or jam happened in those rounds, all cycled flawlessly and were as accurate as I expected them to be.

The only issue that I've had with the pistol after firing 1500 rounds though it is that the rear sight became loose and came off, I had to Elfi it back twice. The after market Houge grips fit the pistol excellently and improve the grip and look of the pistol quite a bit.

ok canik is an awsome pistoil. looks, accuracy etc. But in reference to post 68 from Abbas sb. Rear sight falling off......this is bad. Has this happened to anyone else too? I am curious!

Abbas
30-04-2010, 04:50 PM
The rear sight is not a big issue and can happen to any pistol, I just stuck some ELFI on it and glued it back into place. Works fine. I think this is one of the cheapest shooting pistols out there. Just lovely and damn accurate. I shot this target with it from 15M. What better groups can one expect from a 50 K pistol. I've seen X5 owners shoot worse.

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii99/AbbasMalik/Canik.jpg

If one needs a gun for regular carry then the CZ999 is a better choice mostly due to it's 'Decocker' function. If however I had to pick a gun for range shooting under 50 K nothing comes remotely close to the Canik.

I have also fired over 2500 rounds through my pistol and am happy to report that not a single misfire, jam or any FTE. The gun itself is still in like new condition and I'm sure 15,000 rounds will not be an issue.

Abbas
30-04-2010, 04:53 PM
Also would like to add that I've fired upto 300 rounds in one session with this pistol without cleaning it. My hands did not hurt even after all that firing and it kept on firing even after getting quite messy.

This pistol can, has and does hold it's own against a Glock 17 in a shooting match, infact my first choice for use in a competition was this over my new 17.

Abbas sahib, thanks for the input. Well, I am hearing all good things about Canik's performance and when they come from a shooter of your caliber, they mean something. It appears that Canik guys are doing the basic things well. They copied CZ75 which, along with Sig P210 (whose design Ceska guys copied) has the reputation of being the most accurate combat handgun ever manufactured. Canik guys have also been able to achieve tight slide frame fitting which is holding on as per your experience even after firing 3000 rounds. Moreover, they have used quality magazines and other parts. A very good value for money indeed.

Abbas sahib, if it is not much of a botheration for you, I would request you to post target results of Piranha and Piranha C in the Handgun Accuracy thread for the benefit of all members.

Thanks and regards :)

Also how much you bought it for and from where.

Abbas sb, would it be possible to share a field report for the Canik 55 Piranha at 25/30 meters... and as Gilani sb has requested perhaps an entry into the Handgun accuracy thread would be great!

20-05-2010, 02:34 AM
Salams, sorry I am away sort of and have limited access to the forum. The grip was a gift from a friend but can be ordered off any good gun accesories site. Look for CZ 75 grip, they fit all clones like the Canik.

@MKDD InshAllah I will post a short review in Gilani sahib excellent and very useful thread as soon as I get back, infact will invite him over to try it. As far as 25m shooting, I've personally shot a 166 with it on a precision target but that's just bad shooting, the pistol is quite capable of more.

This is the Canik's barrel after 3000 rounds have been fired from it ! Absolute MINT condition and as accurate as the day I bought it.

Sarsilmaz Klinic 2000 is based on the CZ-75 design while the Pirahna is based on the CZ-75 SP-01 model. Two very different pistols. Call me biased but I'm sure the Pirahna will give the Klinic a run for its money at any given day! ;)

Gilani
22-05-2010, 07:38 PM
Though both are essentially the same gun but minor differences are certainly there. If Canik is performing better than Klinic than it's a good news because it is around 10K cheaper also. We have two user reviews about Canik55 (Abbas sahib and Anthrax) but none about Klinic 2000.

Would be wonderful to test fire both :P

Brother this handgun is in a class of its own. People will gradually discover what this handgun is capable of and frankly, it has proved its metal on several occasions but since its a new gun, people tend to go more towards the Taurus, CZ and Stoeger's way but honestly, it can outclass any one of the popular brands in a heartbeat.

Don't just buy it for your guards, by one for yourself as well. I own one too and absolutely love it. Been my carry weapon for the past 7 months and I'm more than just satisfied with it.

P.S I think Abbas bro carries this as his primary SD weapon. I think that says more than enough. ;)

Abbas
20-07-2010, 02:21 AM
Ka_Khan and Anthrax are right. I love carrying the Canik and it is one of the most complete pistols I have ever owned. It is a good carry weapon, very reliable (I haven't had a misfire in over 3500 rounds) and on weekends a formidable range gun. In the hands of a good shooter it can shoot less than 2 inch groups at 15 M and 2.5-3 inch groups at 25 M. I am confident and today after shooting it Gilani sahib agrees that this pistol is quite capable of 180/200 at 25 M's. That's fantastic for a 40 K pistol.

@Topak Yes it is a better pistol than the Kanuni but the Kanuni itself is a great piece and decently accurate. I'm not very updated on your shooting skills but would suggest that first you bring up your shooting to the level where you are consistently hitting at least 150 out of 200 at 15 M's which the Kanuni is very much capable of doing. Once you achieve that only then should you upgrade to the Canik.

@mhrehman +1
Don't just buy it for your guards, by one for yourself as well.

Just as a side comment, I have seen guards in action with various weapons and I would recommend buying them a pistol with a decocker like the CZ999. Otherwise once in 1000 times of use you can count on them to have their fingers slip and the round in the chamber accidentally going off.

Some new info about the Canik55 Handguns from another forum. I asked this person's reviews about the handgun and this is what he had to say. Bear in mind that he's talking about a "Rental" handgun.

The other issue I do not like with those pistols are the movement of the ejector / sear housing and the manual safety lever. The parts I mentioned may have a little play on all kind of CZs and its clones, but it is more noticeable in the Canik pistols. I does not effect the function of the pistol, but again it may be a consideration for the shooters and enthusiats who pay so much close attention to the details.

Other then that, they are pretty reliable and durable pistols, especially the all steel standard versions. In Turkey unfortunately only high pressure 124 gr NATO FMJ is available for civilians in 9x19 mm , and the pistols you see above are eating a thousand round of high pressure NATO ammo almost in every week. I have seen a standard all steel Canik 55 still going strong after 40.000 rounds of NATO ammo while a rental Beretta 92 lost its barrel at approximately 25.000 rounds of that ammo. But unfortunately the aluminum alloy frames of the Canik pistols do not exceed 30.000 rounds life with that ammo. Again this round counts are shot at most in a year.

Best.

Shot Abbas sahib's Piranha the other day. To say the least, its a beauty. A very accurate and reliable gun which, IMHO, out-performs many over 100k guns (just like CZ999 & MP446 & PT92/99 do). In this price range, it would be extremely difficult to find a more accurate gun. It's beautuifully finished, has very nice trigger and no stoppages whatsoever.

I would also take this oppertunity to thank Abbas sahib for his outstanding hospitality, both inside and outside the range. Me and my sons greatly appreciated that during our long journey for the next four days. Thanks Abbas sahib. :)

PS: The kids also declared Canik Piranha as the best handgun they shot that day :)

Dear Gilani sahib, it was a pleasure to meet you and you are most welcome. You must share your Canik groups with the forum, they were simply marvelous. I was almost embarrassed that on my handgun you were shooting better than I :)

Hats off to the young shooters, they don't fall far from the tree. I was watching all of them while you were shooting and your eldest would give most people on the range a run for their money with the Glock 17.

What can I say!! it would not be easy for a Glock 17 (with factory fittings) to match this performance. Mind you these targets were shot around Maghrib time and the light was not great at all. In better light conditions, it would shoot even better. Very nice trigger, very good balance and the grip of CZ75 is known to be amongst the best in the world :)

This is Shark C or you can say it

Shark = S
Piranha = F
Compact = C that makes SFC but SFC-100 holds rails on it which i will add later on Inshallah

From your posted pictures. I guess that this is shark c.
Thats y i confirmed. Because pirhana has straight frame. And shark c has angled frame.

Regarding sfc 100 model, this model is specially made for canik users in usa because it is best clone of cz75.

And what about my second question of store name ??

@Abbas and all Canik owners
I'm planning on getting a Canik55 Shark as soon as I get my license inshallah and, just out of curiosity, wanted to know a few things:-

1) Is it possible to carry the Shark/Piranha "cocked & locked"?
2) If the hammer is cocked (half or full), do you manually decock or does the gun come with a decocker?
3) Is it possible to run the mags of the full version on the compact version?

kkhan8
17-10-2011, 06:40 PM
@Ahnab
Interestingly enough I am at the exact crossroad. I started off wanting the cz duty or compact and even went to National arms in Lahore to pick it up, only to find them closed for the last week and a half.
After going through this thread multiple times I am also debating on getting the Canik compact, the only thing holding me back is the decocker. I prefer to carry with a round in chamber and decocker gives me some peace of mind.
Do let me know if you do pick it up and how you feel about your new buy.

Ahnab
17-10-2011, 07:31 PM
@kkhan8
Same here, I'd rather carry "cocked & locked" and would need a decocker for some peace of mind. Guess I'll have to wait for any of the seniors or Canik owners to clear up this question. I'm actually planning on getting the large frame version first and the compact version later on (for HD and CC respectively), that's why I was asking if the mags are interchangeable. Personally, I think the Canik is the perfect weapon, considering the price tag. I'm just waiting for the license crap to get sorted out so I can finally get my hands on my very first gun! :-)

Abbas
17-10-2011, 08:17 PM
@Ahnab, kkhan18. To answer your questions in order.

1). Yes. 2). Manual Decock 3). Depends but generally yes.

I would also like to add here that I never carry a gun cocked and STRONGLY suggest infact INSIST friends not to unless they are expecting imminent danger to their lives. Even then I would only go so far as to carry a round in the chamber with the hammer down. The double action pull is just as quick and functional but provides a hellva lot more safety for the gun owner. Never trust your life unnecessarily on a little piece of metal called the safety.

@Abbas
Thanks for the feedback and the safety tip Chief, appreciate it.

A quick question: Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard someone say that in a DA/SA pistol, if you decock using a decocker, the firing pin is rolled out of the way (making the gun "safe", so to speak), but if you decock manually, the firing pin is still "active". Frankly, I quite didn't understand this whole "firing pin being safe or active" business, so wanted to know if there's any truth to this? It's actually because of this confusion that I've started leaning towards getting a SA-only weapon (1911, Hi-Power, etc.) and carrying it "cocked & locked".

Ahnab bro, pistols having decocker has always a firing pin safety present that keeps the striker pin locked unless you pull the trigger to depress that safety to give striker pin way to move forward thus if you are using only decocker to lower the hammer it will not be able to move the firing pin even it drops right over it. Rolling the striker pin away type system is in Beretta, I like n trust this thing more but there is a hitch in this system that is safety/decocker is right on the slide which I personally dont have problem with but some shooters dont like it there.

Ahnab
